your drums?

Drawn from a rotating pool of 169 hand-written questions covering drum history, drum machines, drum recording and processing, sampling culture, and the little bits of trivia every producer ends up needing sooner or later.

All rendered live in your browser. You'll get one of each:

• BPM — guess the tempo of a 2-bar loop.
• EQ — spot the frequency of a notch cut or a boost.
• Signal chain — hear a processed loop and identify which combination of HP filter, LP filter and compressor was used.
• Instrument ID — recognize a rare percussion instrument played solo.
• Kick sequence — listen to a 2-bar groove and reprogram the kick pattern onto a 16-step grid.

The drum loops you hear in the audio questions are built on the fly from a bank of 46 kicks, 81 snares, 21 claps and 59 hi-hats — all one-shots from Loops de la Crème libraries. Every day the engine picks fresh samples, random tuning, random patterns, so no two rounds ever sound identical.

The percussion loops for Instrument ID are recorded straight from LDLC Kontakt instruments.
